| | The bus driver typically performs the following work: - operate a school bus within prescribed route(s) in accordance with time schedules
- pick up and discharge students at designated stops
- transport students, teachers, etc. on special trips to various locations
- may transport special education students
- escort and assist students on and off the bus and across streets
- obey and follow all student transportation rules & regulations as outlined by:
- the District - Department of Motor Vehicles - California Highway Patrol - recognize problems which may interfere with the welfare of students and implement solutions
- maintain order and proper discipline of student passengers
- instruct students on safety regulations and policies related to passenger conduct
- ensure safety of passengers
- complete records that will be submitted to the California Energy Commission
- administer first aid
- evacuate the vehicle in a safe and timely manner when necessary
- conduct periodic evacuation drills
- conduct daily safety and operations inspection of assigned vehicle
- recognize malfunctions in equipment and report needed mechanical repair
- perform routine servicing of bus, including fueling, checking oil, water and power steering fluid levels
- clean bus interior
- repair seats using a bonding kit for minor repairs and replace seat covers as needed
- clean the exterior of the bus, including steam cleaning, washing and polishing the bus
- maintain records and prepare reports
- maintain student lists and check bus passes
- attend and participate in staff meetings and in-service activities
- attend workshops, conferences and classes to increase professional knowledge
Certificates/licenses: - Valid California Commercial Driver's License
- California School Bus Driver's Certificate
- First Aid Certificate
- Dept. of Motor Vehicles Medical Examiner's Certificate

| | The type 2 bus driver typically performs the following work: - operate a type 2 (not more than 16 passengers)school bus within prescribed route(s)
- pick up and discharge students at designated stops
- transport students, teachers, etc. on special trips to various locations
- secure seat belts and wheel chair devices and operate wheelchair lifts
- may transport special education students
- escort and assist students on and off the bus and across streets
- obey and follow all student transportation rules & regulations as outlined by:
- the District - Department of Motor Vehicles - California Highway Patrol - recognize problems which may interfere with the welfare of students and implement solutions
- maintain order and proper discipline of student passengers

| | The equipment mechanics typically perform the following work: - inspect, diagnose, overhaul, adjust and repair gas and diesel-powered buses, trucks, autos, and power equipment
- perform a prescribed preventative maintenance program on the bus fleet, trucks and autos
- road test vehicles after work has been completed
- inspect buses
- perform electrical work, painting, acetylene and arc welding and minor body repair on motorized equipment
- perform work in accordance with and maintain equipment as required by the California Highway Patrol and Vehicle Code
- remain current on all laws pertaining to safe maintenance and repair of school buses
- patch and install seat covers and other accessories on buses
- operate a steam cleaner to clean buses, autos and trucks
- maintain inventory of parts and supplies on hand for the repair of vehicles
- maintain a variety of records relative to each vehicle
- maintain and repair shop facilities and equipment
Certificates/licenses: - Valid Class "A" Driver's License
