Who Is Eligible to Take The GED Test?

| | The Chico Unified School District GED Test Center is located on the AFC campus. The GED test is offered to all California residents, and when passed, issues a California High School Equivalency Certificate that is equivalent by law to a high school diploma throughout the United States.

| | Pre-Registration and Pre-Payment of Fees is Required! GED Pre-Registration must be done in person at the GED Test Center between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. The cost for the GED Test is $100.00, which must be paid for at the time of registration. Cash, money orders, and checks (made out to the CUSD GED Test Center) are accepted as payment.
No refunds will be issued after 30 days.
Proper identification must be shown at the time of pre-registration.

| | You are eligible to take the GED test if you are a resident of California and meet any one of the following criteria: - The individual is 18 years of age or older, or within 60 days of his or her 18th birthday (regardless of school enrollment status).
- The individual must be within 60 days of when he or she would have graduated from high school had he or she remained in school and followed the usual course of study (please note that examinees testing under this criteria may not be enrolled in school).
- The individual is 17 years of age, has been out of school for at least 60 consecutive school days, and provides a letter of request for the test from the military, a post-secondary educational institution or a prospective employer.
Persons who pass the GED test at age 17 will not receive the equivalency certificate until their 18th birthday; a letter of intent is issued which states that the certificate is being held pending the examinee's 18th birthday. | |

| | In order to sign up for the GED Test, you must have one of the following forms of identification: - Driver's licenses issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles.
- Identification cards issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles.
- Identification cards issued by the military.
- Identification cards issued by U.S. or foreign governments.
- Passports issued by U.S. or foreign governments.
- Identification cards issued by post-secondary schools.
- Tribal identification cards.
There are no exceptions to the above forms of identification. In order to be considered valid, the identification must contain a current picture (i.e., a passport with a childhood picture would not be valid) and date of birth.
If an examinee doesn't have one of the above forms of identification, he or she will not be able to take the test until the proper identification is obtained. A high school identification card will not be accepted as sufficient identification to take the GED Test.
