Art 1 offers the beginning student experiences in the basic principles of drawing and design. The students will work with the basic art elements of color, line, value, shape, form and texture. Students will learn how to organize these art elements using design principles. The students will work with felt pen, pen, pencil, colored pencil, pastel chalk. watercolor, and poster paints. They will work individually on most projects, but have a chance to work in small groups on others. Major areas that will sometimes be explored are graphic design, drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, cartooning, paper making, and photography. Various media such as silk screen, airbrush, linoleum block, and wood carving may also be included when appropriate.
