OVERVIEW OF FAIR VIEW HIGH SCHOOL

The Chico Unified School District Board of Trustees established Fair View High School in 1968. Classes were first held at the Silver Dollar Fair Grounds where the students named the school Fair View. They said they were treated fairly and that the staff and the activities of the school provided them with a new and more positive view of life. The school was then moved to the old Oakdale Elementary School location at 11th and Park in 1975. In 2005, Fair View High School moved to its current location at 290 East Ave (formerly Jay Partridge Elementary School).

Fair View High School continues to have a fair and positive approach. Fair View promotes the ABC’s and the 3R’s, although we have changed their meanings a bit since 1968. Our ABC’s stand for attendance, behavior, and credits/grades. These are the three areas that the majority of our students need some assistance with and are the basis for most referrals to alternative education. Our 3R’s stand for respect, responsibility, and resiliency. These are the important life skills we address with our students. Respect for self and shared with others. Responsibility for one’s own actions at all times. Resiliency, which is our ability to bounce back after setbacks.

Fair View proudly follows both District and State standards. We have been accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges since 1974. We have also been recognized by the California Department of Education as a Model Continuation High School.

Williams Vs. State of California	Top of Page

On December 10, 2004, the San Francisco County Superior Court approved the notice of settlement in Eliezer Williams, et al. v. State of California, et al. The court ordered that the California Department of Education make available information regarding the provisions of the settlement and the process by which students on whose behalf the lawsuit was filed may file objections to the settlement. In keeping with the court’s order, four documents are posted and available for downloading on CDE’s Web site, http://www.cde.ca.gov/eo/ce/wc/index.asp.
