| | "Challenge Principal Sue" Summer Reading Contest Children are made readers on the laps of their parents. ~Emilie Buchwald (1994) Notes from Principal Sue: Each year I try to encourage summer reading with a “Challenge Principal Sue Contest”. The challenge this summer is simple for the students, but not quite so for Sue! Sue has agreed to maintain a Website and update it throughout the summer every Friday each time a Hooker Oak Sprout kid sends her a postcard about his/her reading! The challenge is voluntary, but the more reading that is done…. the more work Sue will have in maintaining the Website. Not only will she keep track of the Hooker Oak Sprout kids who are reading, she’ll also use the postcards sent to her as an entry for the Principal for a Day drawing. Just think…. the more books you read… and the more postcards you send…. the more chances you’ll have to win! Students, Would you like to be Principal for a Day at Hooker Oak School? Just imagine the things you can do! Here’s how the contest works: 1. With the last week of school's TWIG each student received a summer reading list for your grade level. 2. Choose a book (you have NOT read before) to read from the list or make your own reading choice, but it must be a book at your reading level. No 6th graders reading Kindergarten books! 3. Read the book! 4. When you are finished, write to Sue and tell her all about the book on the postcard. (Kindergarteners and 1st graders may have parents help them with the writing.) Include the following: - The name of the book
- Your name (first and last) and grade
- One or two sentences about the book
- If you have room, tell Sue if you like the book or draw a picture ( a little one!)
5. Address the postcard to: Sue Hegedus Hooker Oak School 1238 Arbutus Ave. Chico, CA 95926 | |
