Two-Way Immersion Program
| | Two-Way Immersion Program is a unique educational model in which children learn to think, read, write, and communicate naturally in two languages, English and Spanish. Benefits: - Students are empowered to achieve the highest academic, social, and linguistic skills in two languages preparing them for the future. - Hands-on experiences are integrated with the classroom curriculum. - Learning a second language stimulates the brain to develop higher-level reasoning skills which transfer to complex critical thinking in math, science, and language arts. - Students learn in an ethnically, culturally, and linguistically integrated environment. The ChicoUnifiedSchool District’s Two-Way Immersion Program merges the most successful aspects of second language learning with a challenging academic program. Beginning in kindergarten through second grade, students receive almost all of the instruction in Spanish. This early emphasis on Spanish instruction benefits both language groups. All students receive increased amounts of English instruction each year. By the fifth grade they spend 50% of their time in Spanish Instruction and 50% in English instruction. District curriculum guidelines are followed and grade level standards are taught in all subject areas at all levels. Academic excellence is stressed and literature in both languages is a primary focus throughout the curriculum. Enrollment Information: Participation in the Two-Way Immersion Program is voluntary and space is limited. Students are selected through a lottery process. If you are interested in this program, fill out the enrollment form at the time of your student’s registration and return it with your Kindergarten Enrollment Package. | |
