CBM Testing
|
| | Mrs. Marx and Mr. Frank organize the C.B.M. (Curriculum Based Measurment) testing program. C.B.M. testing gathers information about students’ fluency in reading. It is an assessment procedure that results in practical information to facilitate positive student outcomes. Students read three passages each for a minute, while the examiner records errors. To get a baseline measure, the scores are averaged, the classes' scores are averaged, and then the grade level scores are averaged for each teacher. Students’ skills can be compared to peers at their own school and grade level.
The C.B.M. testing is given in a quiet area like the courtyard or the classroom. The C.B.M assessment provides a classroom teacher with: - Each student’s relative standing in the classroom and their progress.
- A means to evaluate relative standing of new students.
- Help in grouping students.
- Pre and post testing for the school year in reading fluency.
- Information so they can modify a student’s instructional program.
The test is given once in the fall to establish a starting point of each child's reading ability and then at each trimester for grades 2nd-6th . In conclusion, C.B.M. testing is just another test of skill. | |
