| | PTA SIERRA VIEW ELEMENTARY PTA Having a Positive Impact on our Children Sierra View Elementary School’s PTA brings together parents, teachers, and administrators to promote quality education, encourage community involvement, strive to expand the arts, and work for a safe & healthy environment for our students! Sierra View PTA’s focus is on building and maintaining strong programs and activities that bring our children together, enhance their learning environment and keep the FUN in their school experience. It is through membership dues, generous fundraising support and abundant volunteer efforts, that the SV PTA is able to fulfill its goals each year! Activities like the Fall Festival, Cal-Skate Nights, School Assemblies, Library Mornings, Book Fairs (*two this year!), Science Fair, end-of-the-year Picnic on the Green, Autograph Book and more exist because of the PTA. Reflections Art Program— a National PTA sponsored art contest that provides our children with a positive creative outlet, boosts self-esteem and increases community awareness on the importance of the arts in education. R.I.C.H. Reading — our year-long reading program that teaches the joys and benefits of reading by encouraging students with fun rewards. Book Buddies — Volunteer and financial support of our year-long reading program for students in Grades 1 & 2 in need of extra reading help. Citizenship & Community Outreach — The year-long Citizenship Awards acknowledge & reward students on a monthly basis for exemplary behavior and good conduct. The Giving Tree and Canned Food Drive during the holidays help our children learn the importance of helping others. In addition to the many programs and activities PTA supports every year, here are just a few of the additional accomplishments from 2006-07’s efforts: we gave each teacher $300 for classroom supplies; $2,000 worth of new books plus all new tables and chairs were added to the Library; the newly-remodeled Computer Lab received $2,500 worth of software; and the Kindergarten playground gained two new picnic tables! In the 2007-08 year PTA purchased new playground equipment to be installed in the fall of 2008, small book shelves for the library, Remedial Reading Programs, more computer software for the computer lab, playground balls, $300 for each teacher to use in their classrooms, and a Parent Enrichment Program. THIS YEAR our goals include: To continue the terrific on-going programs and activities PTA offers every year; To, once again, give our teachers funds to use on classroom supplies; To strengthen our software selections for the Computer Lab, To Purchase more Library Books; To continue to improve Sierra View’s Campus by replacing four broken-down wooden picnic tables in the Intermediate Courtyard; To offer our second year of Parent Enrichment Classes free of charge! We invite you to join PTA and be part of an organization dedicated to improving YOUR child’s school! PTA uses the Sierra Viewer (the school’s bi-weekly newsletter), flyers and e-mail to communicate and promote upcoming activities and events to you. Please be sure to look over the Sierra Viewer, look through your child’s backpack and keep an eye out for e-mail notifications to stay informed of great activities throughout the year!
