Strategies to Support Student Success
Personalizing through Strategies
| | Human scale is only the beginning. The culture of the place is also critical, [reflecting] the dignity deserved by teachers as well as students. --Ted Sizer, Horace’s Hope
When many people think of smaller learning communities, they think of structures--such as academies--where students are grouped together for instruction (often theme-based). However, the personalization we are reaching for with our program can also be attained through specific strategies which move us toward the goal of knowing each one of our students, and improving their academic achievement.
As a part of our SLC program, we are implementing the following strategies at both PV and Chico High. Coordinators at each site are planning and carrying out the strategy in a way that fits with the culture of each high school.

In addition to reorganizing parts of our schools into smaller structures and connecting each student with at least one adult through strategies, we are working to improve student achievement through focused work in three key areas:
Assessment Literacy Numeracy
In addition, individual SLC structures at both sites use one or more of the following
