What Is Art Studio?
Art Studio students explore the world of creativity while working in the areas of drawing, design, painting, sculpture, digital art, and color theory focusing in three areas of emphasis: studio work, art exhibition, and public artwork. The Art Studio experience allows students to go on field trips, work with art mentors, go on art-related job shadows and help their community and school through art service learning projects. Technology integration includes the development of an e-portfolio and graphic design.
Art Studio Website
This website was designed to showcase the work of the students of Art Studio. Most of today's professional artists use online portfolios to promote themselves and sell their work. This website provides Art Studio students with a start at this kind of exposure. Here are the major components of the Art Studio website:
STUDENT PORTFOLIO PAGES
There are 116 student portfolios on this site. Studio 1 & Studio 2 student’s portfolios are continually updated. Those leaving the program and PV grads are also represented on the Alumni page. Click on the links above, or the top of the page, to view these. Once there: click on the student icons to view that student's portfolio. Then click the thumbnails to see enlargements of each work of art.
ART STUDIO ACTIVITIES PICTURES
Art Studio students visit museums and artist's studios not only in Chico but in Sacramento and San Francisco too. Students also participate in many local arts related events and volunteer at community events. Check out the pictures in the Activity Pics section.
WHAT'S HAPPENING AT THE ART STUDIO
Once you have looked at the pictures of what Art Studio has done over the past three years on the Activity pages, and have checked out the students work in our extensive portfolios then see what is currently happening at Art Studio. Check out AS News for the latest shows, fieldtrip schedules, and art happenings related to the Art Studio program.
- PROJECTS -
Recently Studio 2 students were busy gouging away at blocks of linoleum as they worked on a form of block printing. The linoleum block is prepared as a relief matrix, which means the areas to show 'white' are cut away with a knife, chisel, or sandpaper leaving the image to show in 'black' at the original surface level. The block is then inked and the paper or cloth is pressed to the surface to achieve the print. The picture at left shows ink being applied to a block. A slideshow of students during various stages of the process can be seen here. If you want to see the entire classes' work click here.
Postmodern art lashed out against Modernism, or the status quo, with an explosion of numerous different mediums and styles. Difficult to describe, postmodern art is easiest to think of as the joining together of various art forms used throughout art’s history, so all forms of art come together to create visually stimulating, unique, and original pieces. The painting to the left is one of the pieces created by Studio 2 students this spring using the postmodern "philosophy". Check out all the students work for this assignment here. Check out last years Postmodern art projects by clicking here.
