This great website from the UK has many areas for students to explore in the area of maths (you know, mathematics). Top Jobs list ways working adults in the UK use maths in their daily work. Numberland lets students learn about numbers (for example, koala bears sleep an average of 22 hours a day). Puzzles, features describing mathematical tools, and many activities will appeal to students from Kindergarten to eighth grade. Lucky students in the UK can also participate in special competitions.

BBC Schools Online

Online games and sample testing available (these are called revisions, like review quizzes). Once you get used to the subtle linguistic difference, this site is "brilliant." Desert Challenge has students retrieving treasure from across the desert wastes. Navigate your way round obstacles, refueling and changing your money as you cross into new territories (using metric measurement). Find other resources by grade level or discipline.

Create a Graph

The National Center for Education Statistics created this online tool so that anyone can make an area, bar, pie, or line graph and point it out or download the image to a computer disk. Older students can benefit from the link that shows how graphs can be used in probability. Younger students will quickly learn the difference between the left X and Y axis when they need to create their own line graphs.

Lessons and resources for math teachers of all ages. The references are very useful, such as English-Spanish Math Translations and the Glossary of Math Terms. You can generate Algebra Worksheets online, as are test prep for the SAT, ACT and more. Some links on this site are for registered (often paying) users, but there is much for a math teacher to use with his/her classes.
