Glass bender & Local Artist
During a 1-hour tour of the shop by owner Joe Hupp, he showed me how each sign is designed by computer and, while some are printed out on a very expensive wide-format printer (the banner-type of signs), others are fabricated by a machine that forms (bends) sheet metal into letters. These letters are then assembled and some illuminated by either fluorescent, LED or neon lighting. The neon part of the shop was awesome! From intricate bends in the glass, attachment of electrodes, filling the tubes with either argon or neon gas and then to light them up with 15,000 volts of electricity.
