Assessment of State Standards

Assessment of State Standards

Teachers and parents need information about whether students are meeting the expectations set by the State Standards. The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium is developing an assessment system that will measure mastery of the State Standards and provide timely information about student achievement and progress toward college and career readiness. The Smarter Balanced Assessment System will give parents and students more accurate and actionable information about what students are learning. Because these assessments are computer adaptive, they will also provide better information about the needs and successes of individual students. Based on student responses, the computer program adjusts the difficulty of questions throughout the assessment. For example, a student who answers a question correctly will receive a more challenging item, while an incorrect answer generates an easier question.
