EMERGENCY 30-DAY SUBSTITUTE TEACHING PERMIT:

**There is currently a high volume of applicants so staff are responding to inquiries in the order they are received which may take a few weeks.**
Step One: Create your Educator Login by visiting https://www.ctc.ca.gov/.
Step Two: Complete a CTC LiveScan with an approved Live Scanning agency. (LiveScan fee will vary per agency.) CLICK HERE for the 41-LS form.
Step Three: Apply for your Certificate of Clearance (COC) located at the bottom of your Educator Profile. COC fee is $52.
Step Four: Submit your Official Electronic Transcripts directly to etranscripts@ctc.ca.gov For additional transcript guidance CLICK HERE
Step Five: Submit a Direct Application to the CTC for the 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit on your educator profile with the CTC. Applications fee's are non- refundable, CLICK HERE for guidance.
Step Six: Once you are granted your 30-Day Substitute Permit, you can then begin the application process for substitute teaching with Chico Unified.
At this time, district recommendations are only approved by requested CUSD school sites for Student Teachers. Direct Applications must be submitted by individuals who are interested in substitute teaching and are responsible for completing the CTC requirements in the order listed above. Please be sure to read the CTC requirements to ensure a successful application submission.

Step 1: If you hold a current California Teaching Credential or a 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit, please complete the AB-2534 form.
- Please submit your completed AB-2534 form to Janessa Smead at JSmead@chicousd.org.
Step 2: Once your AB-2534 has been verified, you will be contacted to schedule your District LiveScan.
- The LiveScan is a $52 fee (non-refundable).
Step 3: During your LiveScan appointment, you will be given a Substitute Teacher application packet to take home to complete while your LiveScan is being processed.
Step 4: Once the District receives your LiveScan clearance, you will be notified to schedule a second appointment to submit your completed substituting packet.

Certificated Substitute Salary Schedule
Pay rates for the 2025/26 school year TK-12 certificated substitutes will be paid as follows:
Day-to-Day Substitutes
- Working a full day* - $175
- Working more than one-half day, but less than a full day (.8) - $140
- Working up to one-half day (.6) - $105
Long-Term Substitutes (Commencing on the eleventh day of continuous substitute service for the same staff person.)
- Working a full day* - $200
- Working more than one-half day, but less than a full day (.8) - $160
- Working up to one-half day (.6) - $120
* If the regular teacher's assignment includes an additional class, the substitute shall earn an additional factor of 0.20

CUSD is in low-demand for new Substitute Teachers due ta lack of consistent available Substitute Teaching work.
Please also be aware that the onboarding process may take several weeks and that staff are responding to inquiries in the order in which they are received.
