Responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use
Chico Unified School District recognizes that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly becoming an essential tool in both education and the world. This year, we introduced an approved, secure, and closed AI system with a focus on transparent and ethical best practices. Our goal is to model and teach students the responsible use of AI by incorporating the critical thinking and digital literacy skills they need to thrive in a constantly evolving technological landscape.
How It Works
How It Works
How It Works
Here's how MagicSchool works:
- Teacher Control: The platform is designed to give teachers and district administrators full control over what students can access.
- "Student Rooms": A teacher first creates a "Student Room" and then adds specific AI tools to that room from a library of available tools.
- Teacher as Gatekeeper: A teacher can select which tools are appropriate for a specific lesson or age group. This ensures that students are only exposed to the AI functionality the teacher has approved for that task.
- Student Access: Students join the room using a special code or link provided by the teacher, and their access is limited to the tools within that specific room. The teacher can monitor student interactions in real time.
This model allows the school to maintain a high level of control and moderation over student AI usage, addressing a key privacy concern for parents.

Chico Unified teachers have received training on our approved AI tools, ensuring they understand the capabilities and, more importantly, the responsible application of these systems in an educational setting. We are currently implementing the software on a thoughtful, phased basis, meaning only some classrooms are actively incorporating these new tools into the daily curriculum at this time. We strongly encourage parents/guardians to remain engaged in their student's education. If you ever have questions about the specific curriculum, learning objectives, or the technology being used in your student's classroom, please do not hesitate to reach out directly to your student's teacher, the school's principal, or our district office staff — we are partners in student success!
