RECOMMENDATION PROCESS FOR EMERGENCY 30-DAY SUBSTITUTE TEACHING PERMIT:

**There is currently a high volume of applicants so staff are responding to inquiries in the order they are received which may take a few weeks.**
Step 1: Order official transcripts showing the conferral of a baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Transcripts can be mailed to your personal address. Electronic transcripts must be emailed to JHohberg@chicousd.org directly from the University to be accepted. Please notify Julia Hohberg via email when transcripts have been ordered! Official Transcripts will only be held by the district for a maximum of 60 days.
- If you prefer to submit a direct application to the CTC, please have your official transcripts submitted directly to the CTC from your university. Please note: Direct applications will take up to 50 days for the CTC to process.
Step 2: Visit https://www.ctc.ca.gov/credentials/ctc-online-services and create your Educator login to apply for your Certificate of Clearance (COC).
Step 3: Once your transcripts have been received, you will be notified by email to schedule your LiveScan requirements. LiveScan fees are payable with debit/credit card during your appointment. Chico Unified requires a seperate LiveScan in order to be eligible to sub within the district's school sites.
** Your Educator profile and Certificate of Clearances must be completed before your LiveScan appointments with CUSD.
Step 4: During your LiveScan appointment, you will be given the substituting packet to take home with instructions on how to complete your recommendation for your 30-day emergency credential. Please allow up to 2 weeks for your 30-day emergency credential to be granted to you by the CTC.

Step 1: If you hold a current California Teaching Credential or a 30-Day Emergency Credential, please complete the AB-2534 form.
- Please submit your completed AB-2534 form to Julia Hohberg JHohberg@chicousd.org.
Step 2: Once your AB-2534 has been verified, you will be contacted to schedule your District LiveScan.
- The LiveScan is a $52 fee (non-refundable).
Step 3: During your LiveScan appointment, you will be given a Substitute Teacher application packet to take home to complete while your LiveScan is being processed.
Step 4: Once the District receives your LiveScan clearance, you will be notified to schedule a second appointment to submit your completed substituting packet.

Certificated Substitute Salary Schedule
Pay rates for the 2025/26 school year TK-12 certificated substitutes will be paid as follows:
Day-to-Day Substitutes
- Working a full day* - $175
- Working more than one-half day, but less than a full day (.8) - $140
- Working up to one-half day (.6) - $105
Long-Term Substitutes (Commencing on the eleventh day of continuous substitute service for the same staff person.)
- Working a full day* - $200
- Working more than one-half day, but less than a full day (.8) - $160
- Working up to one-half day (.6) - $120
* If the regular teacher's assignment includes an additional class, the substitute shall earn an additional factor of 0.20

The 2025/2026 school year is anticipated to be a low-demand year for Substitute Teachers.
Due to the volume of Substitute Teaching applications received at the beginning of the school year please be aware that the onboarding process may take more than several weeks and that staff are responding to inquiries in the order in which they are received.
